pedestrian bridge will link a commercial office building and carpark to a high-end retail mall in Sao Paulo. The project is economically competitive in both construction and maintenance costs when compared with tradiitional bridges of steel or concrete construction. The semi-monocoque surface was designed through custom-written software code that negotiates structural, formal and material constraints whilst offering spatially dynamic and crisp design solutions to be explored. The additional formal detail of topological holes and ridging requires no additional complexity to fabrication formwork yet significantly reduces the overall material quantities which provides an exceptional reduction in the cost of the project. The resulting bridge offers a iconic design proposal to the site that will accompany architectural projects developed by other internationally renowned architectural practices.
